This point was driven home in my mind as I was looking around a national hunting and fishing store last month.  In a large display they were promoting a fishing rod and reel holder.  Now, nothing special in my mind about a rod and reel holder except for the fact that this particular model held a place to store twelve rods and reels.  It made me think about my Grandfather.  He loved to fish.  He fished in the river that was nearby and he fished in a pond that was on his property.  He fished as often as he could, enjoying the peace and tranquility and he also fished to provide food for his family.  He owned one, maybe two rods and reels.  If I went fishing with him I brought my only rod and reel from home.    I think about what his reaction would be to the fact that many people today own more than one rod and reel.  Don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to say that people need only one rod and reel.  I’m just making the observation that fisherman today usually own more than one.  Things have changed.  One rod and reel doesn’t seem to do the job anymore.  Our prosperity today encourages people to own more than one of many things. So how does this relate to church?  I think many people today think of religion like this.  They think that having one God to worship was sufficient for their parents and grandparents yet they want more options.  They have a desire for more choices today.  They believe there are multiple ways to seek God.  It has become important to be inclusive and politically correct today, no need for Biblical truths, people want to think how they want to think and observe their god(s) in their own way. The problem with their thinking is God has told us of only one way.  The interesting fact is God has given us the freedom to choose.  God doesn’t make any of us come to Him.  He gives us a choice.  Yet He doesn’t give us the choice to change His plan.  John 14:6, Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”  So the Bible clearly states we only have one way. Ephesians 4:4-6, There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called, one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. So I leave you with our need of only ONE.  God is our sufficient ONE. Have a blessed week, Franklin MEETING GOD MEETING NEEDS Feed My Sheep Franklin Wood is leading a study on the Book  of Genesis The next meeting will be on Thursday, January 29 @ 6:00 p.m. at Mary Bodkin’s home. Call Billy Mansfield or Mary Bodkin if you have any questions. Join A TEAM! In an effort to improve our ministry to our members and our community, our Deacons have decided to start a Team- based approach to ministry.  We will have three teams and are hoping to find 10 people for each team as we begin this approach. Following are the three teams and a brief description of the ministry for which they are responsible: Hospital/Crisis Team: Visit and follow-up visits with members in the Hospital and Minister to members who have a death, tragic accident or loss (job, divorce, etc.). Visitor/New Member Follow up: Visit those who are our guests during worship on Sundays and be trained in how to counsel those who make decisions.  Also welcome new members with a member’s packet and do follow-up for the first three months after a family joins. Shut-ins and Inactive Members: Visit and minister to the widows and shut-ins in the church. Also visit and encourage those members who have become inactive and seek to bring them back into active service. Be in prayer about which Team God wants you to join. Sign-Up Sheets in foyer and Welcome Center. Partners in Prayer If you would like to receive an  e-mail whenever we have a prayer request or receive information about one of the members, please e-mail your e-mail address to office@forestparkbaptist.org.
